If there’s a God, why is there so much evil?

Wow! I bet that is what you are saying to yourself! You are probably wondering how I can have the gall to address such a topic! I will just say this from the get-go, anybody who is or wants to become a Christian has at one time or another (or will) contemplate this question.

Before we get started let me say this, God is God, and I am ‘man’ (woman).

            “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”

declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways

higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8 & 9

We will never think or be completely like God on this side of eternity, but Jesus tells us to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect (Matt. 5:48). So how can that be?! The mark is high that we must strive to reach, not to be better than everyone we know…. but to be as perfect as God. At the end of the day we must remember that we are dust, the only reason we are any good at all is because of God. He formed us together and helps us to be good….. if we chose to allow Him. God gives us the choice to follow Him or not. Evil entering the world was all us, deciding to go our own way instead of His way. One day, things will be all good again! When Jesus returns for His church!

I feel compelled to let scripture speak for itself for a little bit:

            “Praise the LORD, O my soul;

all my inmost being, praise His holy name.

 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits—

 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

 who satisfies your desires with good things

            so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

He made known His ways to Moses, His deeds to the people of Israel:

The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not

           always accuse, nor will He harbor His anger forever,

He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

so great is His love for those who fear Him:

as far as the east is from the west,

so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children,

so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him;

for he knows how we are formed He remembers that we are dust.”  Psalm 103:1-14

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

That last passage is especially intriguing to me. My God, the God of the Bible, doesn’t call us to do anything that He doesn’t do Himself. So we can infer that God is not overcome with evil, but overcomes evil with good. God gave everything for us… including His Son. There were lots of times throughout history that God could have just wiped us off the planet and the planet out the solar system and the solar system out the milky way and the milky way out of the universe, etc. God did not though, why, because He loves us. The worst thing that His creation did (does) was to not accept His Son when He sent Him down to show us the way. You know what we did (notice I said we, because every time I sin… I help!), we wiped Him off the planet. We killed Him on the cross. God could have once again destroyed mankind…. but He didn’t, instead He overcame evil with good! He raised the perfect sacrifice, Jesus, from the dead, and let us live, so that anyone who chooses can live a new life.  (Romans 6:3 & 4)

Main point: If there is a God why or how is there so much evil in this world?

It takes God, the God of the Bible, to make good come out of all the evil in this world!

                        *My thoughts were stirred by watching “A Case for Faith,” I encourage

  you to watch it also!*

God is soooooooo good and I am very thankful that He has decided to contend with ‘man’ a little longer so that more of us can come to know Him! Please pray that He will reveal Himself to you if you don’t know Him yet!

Love because of Him!

Cathie
