2009 Team

The year of 2009 started with an ice storm which broke out the picture window of the Hospitality House, damaged many trees, and left the property without electricity for 8 days.  Before converting the garage/old MAP room/girls' bunk room into a new office and recreation room, termite damage was discovered.  Even with the bad weather and other difficulties that arose, a lot of progress was made throughout the year.

In all, four cabins (3 for the girls and 1 for the boys) and a shower house were built.  It was also the beginning of the I.B.U. (Intense Biblical Upload) Adult Studies.  The first was held in March and the second in October.  One-half of a metal container purchased in the previous year was converted into a band practice room.  It was also the first year that MAP had a theme for the Homemade Roles Retreat - "The Knights of the Round Table".  There were 31 who participated during the first week of June and many who volunteered to help make it an eventful week.  Among those were Cindy Lewis (head cook), Charles and Sue Ewen (kitchen help and basket-making class), Amanda Hammitt (kitchen help and Girls Only Class), Bill Weber (carpentry), Charles and Diana Jackson (evening classes and Boys/Girls Only Class), and Bryson Childs (afternoon classes and gender games).

It was the second year for a Month of MAP in which 24 participated.  Janee Redd and Slade Stuttle were the 2 apprentices during the month of June.  Beth Roberts and Clint Lambert were MAP interns during the months of June and July.  Tim Parrott and Allie Yearry also worked with MAP in various capacities, such as team leaders, photographer, and AWE time coordinator.  The second week of June was once again spent in Dugger, IN, at Woodland Bible Camp.  The third week was held at the MAP headquarters in which 38 participants came from IL, OK, IN, MO, LA, AR, KY, and FL.  This week was used for the purpose of training and preparation.  Some of those who volunteered their time were Mike and Carolyn Steiner (Bible classes and V.B.S. instruction/preparation), Denise Vaught (kitchen), Scotty Hickson (evening classes) and Matt Vaught (various projects).  The last week of June was spent in Little Rock, AR, working with the Sandstone Drive Church of Christ during their Water Park V.B.S. week.  It was a great time to see the MAP Team shine as they reached out to children from many backgrounds.  They played with them, sang with them, helped them do crafts, fed them, learned to love them, and taught them about God, His power, and His love.
